Not quite ready to say goodbye to the pink fluffy clouds~😭🌸 Sakura season is nearly coming to an end. With the story winds blowing on through, we're getting poofs of pink petals covering the ground. How incredible that nature can bring us such joy, healing, and togetherness. In Japan, there is usually hanami (花見) during sakura season. People gather on picnic blankets & socialize. Eat. Drink. Watch kids play. Elders laugh joyously. Dogs taking naps. At famous sakura spots, it's a BIG ordeal. With Covid, social gatherings have been a big no-no. Where I live in the countryside, people still do it😅 I hope that you were able to enjoy the magical powers of sakura while it graced us 🥰 . . .

Have you seen this flower before?🌿 In our neighbourhood, we have a ton of these trees. During March/April, the aromas fill the air. At least for me, it smells absolutely delicious & slightly spicy. What do you think it is? Ready for the answer? 😏 It's called シキミ (Shikimi) in Japanese aka Japanese Star Anise ~ Illicium anisatum🙌 What flower does it resemble? That's right! Orange blossoms 🍊 You may notice the petals are quite different though. The fruits that the trees produce aren't edible because it contains Anisatin. Actually, they're highly toxic. The leaves are dried and powdered to be used as incense. Back in the days, some shrines used Shikimi for Shinto rituals. Some shrines still recognize this tree as a sacred tree. In the summer thousand-day pilgrimage, worshipers take the branch to homes for fire protection. That post got long! But wasn't I just couldn't narrow down the content. What feelings arise for you when you're around sakura essence?🌸 It's so fascinating that each flower has its own resonance and frequency. Each flower holds significant meaning as well. In Japan, Prunus serrulata (sakura), is the national flower. The ephemeral flowers are short-lived, depending on the rainfall and wind that can gust through. Sakura has held significance in Buddhist traditions, symbolizing the transience of life. They're also seen as renewal, end of winter, youthfulness... What's your favourite flower?
