What is ‘Son of Light’?
Son of Light ~ Helping Hands for Children ~ is a non-profit organization fundraising for Nepali orphan children. This passion project was created in 2003 by Mr. Santa Ratna Shakya, the founder of the Himalayan Singing Bowl Centre.
“We began this project as a team, discussing how we could raise funds to directly donate money to the children in Nepal. For this vision, we still do not do operate as an international NGO non-profit organization.” Mr. Shakya has held singing bowl concert tours in Spain.
At the Himalayan Singing Bowl Centre, we have workshops and therapies available, as well as CDs and books for purchase. Son of Light raises about $4000 annually – the funds go towards the children’s living, necessities, and education.
When Son of Light first began in 2003, there were 24 children (between the ages of 7-16 years old). These children have now grown up and have begun attending university, as well as independently living on their own. Presently at the orphanage, Son of Light has taken in 20 children who have come from the surrounding 36 villages.
On April 25, 2015, there was a devastating earthquake (M 7.9). Many structures collapsed and there was very little good and water to go around. Tragically, about 3500 people died and approximately 7000 people were injured. After this earthquake, Son of Light wanted to do their part to raise more funds to support the children in any way they could. Proceeds went towards rebuilding structures, school, and medical expenses.
Son of Light is an independent volunteer team. Mr. Shakya’s team of volunteer ambassadors are spread around the globe (Italy, Germany, Japan, and other countries). In Japan, Ms. Junko Tanaka is the main ambassador of the Himalayan Singing Bowl Centre.
Son of Light is devoted to this passion project to assist these children by selling charity goods and holding charity events around the world.

ukA is passionately taking part in this project by distributing & sharing Son of Light charity products in the shop & on the online shop. We are also doing social media promotions to spread the message of Son of Light’s fundraising project.
We believe that these incredibly inspiring people shed light on how it takes several villages…cities…countries to support one another to thrive. These stories are especially profound for this day in age where we live for convenience & full of distractions. Just for a moment, put aside the convenience of society & live purely connected to the natural world. When we do so, we are able to connect with one another deeply & with our beloved planet deeply. If one by one, people of the planet are able to transition to living a more simple life by returning back to nature, perhaps this would be the greatest gift of life.
ukA has an introduction on Son of Light on the blog (it’s in Japanese though):
